The Central Ontario Wolves Midget ‘AAA’ team was well represented at this past weekend’s ETA Showcase in Aurora, with five players taking part in the All Star Game. Suiting up for Team East: Ben Addison, Troy Bowditch, Creed Jones, Owen Smith and James White all played key roles in a 4-3 victory. Bowditch continued his strong play of late, earning Game MVP honours after scoring a goal and adding an assist. White also netted a goal and an assist, while Smith chipped in with a single helper. Jones shared goaltending duties, making several sensational saves, while Addison displayed great confidence patrolling the East blue line.

As well, the Wolves were represented behind the bench with Trainer/Equipment Manager Kirk Bricknell and Assistant Coach Clair Cornish both named to the East staff for the event, which attracts scouts and team staff from across the junior and collegiate levels of the game.

Tonight’s ETA match-up in Port Perry at Scugog Arena has Central Ontario (12-4-3) playing host to the Kingston Jr. Frontenacs (7-7-2). The Wolves enter this week’s action still sitting in second place in the East Division standings, while the Frontenacs hold down the final playoff spot, in four place and five points clear of the Whitby Wildcats.

In ETA play last week, the Wolves were upended 5-2 by the York-Simcoe Express on Tuesday evening at Scugog Arena. Bowditch finished the evening with a goal and an assist, with White netting the other goal for the Wolves, and an additional assist credited to Smith. Trailing 3-0 early in the third period, Central Ontario showed great resilience with sound two-way play as they closed the gap to a single goal before a pair of late goals by the Express put the match out of reach.

The Wolves have a busy weekend approaching. Beginning Thursday evening, and running through the weekend, Central Ontario will be on the hunt for back-to-back tournament championships. The Wolves will be competing in the Waterloo Golden Puck tournament, matched up against strong competition throughout the weekend. In the preliminary portion of the event the Wolves will square off against the Toronto Marlboros, Grey-Bruce Highlanders, Halton Hurricanes and New Liskeard Cubs. Central Ontario opens play on Thursday at 7 p.m. looking to avenge a 5-2 loss to the Marlies in Barrie last month.

Next Tuesday Dec. 13, the Wolves are back at home in Port Perry when they look to tame the Whitby Wildcats, with the action getting underway at 7 p.m.
