2021 COWHA TRYOUT POLICY
(effective immediately)

To participate in any COWHA tryout:

Under Hockey Canada Residency Rules, a ‘resident player’ must reside “where she/he habitually resides with their parents”, and such residence must be within the boundaries of the COWHA zone for U9 through U13, inclusive, age divisions only.

Effective for the 2021-22 season, due to the recent OMHA changes, the U14 through U16, inclusive, age divisions, players may try out for any AAA team.

There will be no change to the U18 age division.

For COWHA ZONE U14-U16's to
participate in any AAA tryout, in any age division, players must present a current Permission to Skate (PTS) form from their HOME CENTRE AS WELL AS ONE FROM US (COWHA - Their AAA Zone Centre) which is available here.  Please note, we are not a home centre; we are a zone.

We will provide PTS under the following scenarios:

1. For eligible COWHA Zone players wishing to tryout for Junior clubs.
2. For COWHA Zone players U14-U16 wishing to tryout for other AAA clubs.

U10-U13 Non-resident players (“imports”) are invited to participate in our tryouts providing they present a current waiver from their home AAA zone and they have registered and paid online through our Tryout Passport process.

U14-U16 Non-resident players (“imports”) are invited to participate in our tryouts providing they present a current PTS from their HOME CENTREA AS WELL AS THEIR AAA HOME CENTRE and they have registered and paid online through our Tryout Passport process.

The player’s parents must, prior to the first tryout, register and pay, by credit card, the $100.00 Passport Fee online. Given the shortened timeline for tryouts, the freedom of movement from U14 and above, the number of tryouts will not be guaranteed, and it is at the discretion of the coach as to when a player is offered a waiver. Waivers will only be issued at or after home ice tryouts or exhibition games.

As in the past, a player must be offered a card (place on the team) or a waiver immediately after the third tryout.  For many Age divisions, tryouts will continue after the third tryout.  Any player not offered a card after the third tryout, may either utilize their waiver to tryout elsewhere, or continue to tryout for a COWHA team.

Tryout registration is now open.

The $100.00 Passport Fee will apply to non-resident players that commence tryouts at any time during the process.

There shall be no refunds, in any proportion, of the $100.00 Passport Fee.

CASH PAYMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

PLAYERS WITHOUT A PERMISSION TO SKATE FORM/WAIVER (IF REQ'D) AND NO PAID PASSPORT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY TRYOUT UNTIL BOTH ARE RECEIVED.

The Official Tryout Periods are as follows:

Teams may continue tryouts beyond this end date, however, in accordance with new OMHA Regulations, all resident (“in-zone”) players must be presented with either an Offer of Commitment by end of the 3RD TRYOUT/SKATE or they may request a waiver.  There is no time limit for non-resident (“import”) players.

There will be no waivers issued for resident players until after the third tryout (where applicable)
