Team Challenge
A Challenge to the Players since we are not going to be on the ice or training as a team during this off season all of the players are going to need to spend time on their own preparing for the hockey season.  So I am asking that every player on the team spend time each week working on their shot, stick handling and doing dry land exercises.

Shooting
I am sure that many (all) of the boys have been working on their shots since the end of tryouts and we should see the improvements when we are on the ice in late June.  The challenge is that we want every player to take a MINIMUM 5000 shots from now until we get back on the ice the week of August 15th.  Not to alarm anyone but that is approximately 11 weeks away...  I am going to send everyone information on the OMHA 5000 puck challenge and the players can use that as a guideline but the most important thing is we want them to shoot at least 100 pucks 5 days a week.  The players will be required to email their progress to me on a regular basis. If EVERY player completes the MINIMUM 5000 shots we will have a team pizza party to start the season.

Stickhandling
On top of their shooting I would also like to encourage the boys to work on some stick handling drills for about 10 - 15 minutes each day that they take their shots.

Dry Land
The players will receive a booklet containing simple dry land exercises.  It will include foot speed and strength drills that the boys can do on their own or together in small groups.  If they all spend 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a week on these exercises then the team will be better off when the season starts.

Goalies
In case you were feeling left out.  You will have some goalie specific drills and exercises coming your way but don't be afraid to include yourselves in the shooting challenge.
