Congratulations to the Minor Atom Wolves for winning the “Bell Capital Cup 2017 Championship” in Ottawa on New Year's Eve! This was the teams 3rd tournament finals appearance of the year but first Championship, so CONGRATULATIONS to all the players and coaches for a job well done
The Wolves started out with a disappointing 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Sting after giving up 2 late goals, but played well through the remainder of the round robin, winning 10-0 vs Seaway Valley Rapids, 3-0 vs Gloucester Rangers (green) and 9-0 vs Worcester Railers. They then posted a 5-2 win over Rideau St. Lawrence Kings in the Quarters, and a 6-0 win in a semi-final rematch with the Ottawa Sting. The Championship game was held at the Canadian Tire Centre where they fortunate enough to be assigned the NHL visitors dressing room, which was very exciting for the young group. Their opponent was the familiar Whitby Wildcats
, who have played the Wolves tough many times in the past, but were no match on this day as the Wolves came out flying and dominated the play throughout the game, taking the Championship with a 5-1 win.
