Many of you have no doubt heard rumours about a merger between the ETA's 13 associations and SCTA's 10, to create one 23-team AAA league. After meetings with the Boards of both the ETA and the SCTA, and the OMHA's AAA Committee, it has been decided, effective the 2023-24 season, a 'pilot project' will see such an amalgamation for U14, U15, U16 and U18 only under the league name, "OMHA AAA". This will apparently be the largest AAA hockey league in the world.
The OMHA AAA League will have two conferences/divisions, OMHA East (former ETA teams) and OMHA West (former SCTA teams). Each conference/division will primarily play teams within their own conference/division. There will be 'three or four' interlocking games each season, played during weekend showcases to be played at various facilities during the season. These will be regular season games that count in the standings. An effort will be made to have teams with similar records play one another during these showcases.
U10, U11, U12 and U13 will continue to play in separate ETA and SCTA leagues as they do today. The ETA and SCTA Boards will continue to operate independently.
As this is a pilot project, the future beyond the 2023-24 season will be determined by the experiences of next season.
