COWHA tryouts will be governed by the following OHF and OMHA rules as specified below:
OMHA Rule 20.4 Player Tryout
- All Players on a AAA Zone team remain members of their Home Centre.
- To try out for a AAA Zone team, a player must:
- Register with their Home Centre.
- Obtain a letter of identification (Permission to Skate Form).
- Register for the tryout with the AAA Zone Governing/Operating Committee.
- AAA teams must offer a player the opportunity to sign a completed "OMHA Offer of Commitment" for the current season and a copy of that offer must be delivered by:
- Registered mail sent and postmarked within fourteen (14) days after the commencement of AAA tryouts,
- Courier with a receipt verifying the date the package was given to the courier, withing fourteen (14) days after the commencement of AAA tryouts, or
- Personal service, verified by sworn affidavit(s) of the deliverer and a witness to the delivery that the delivery was made to the player/parent withing fourteen (14) days after the commencement of AAA tryouts.
Note: The AAA tryouts commence the first Monday following the OHF Championships.
Note: For Midget AAA Hockey, the dates above do not apply and an offer is to be made by September 30th.
- By Semptember 30th, the Zone Governing/Operating Committee shall provide each Home Centre with a list by team, of all signed players and identify all players granted a AAA Waiver.
- Any AAA Team signing a player what has received a AAA Waiver will advise the player's Home Centre, by mail, within seven (7) days.
- Any player signed by the Zone after September 15th will require the agreement of the Home Centre, in writing.
- The Zone cannot release a signed player, after September 15th without the agreement of the Home Centre.
- A player requesting his release back to the Home Centre must do so, in writing, to the Zone Governing/Operating Committee and the Home Centre.
- There will be no movement of players after November 1st unless agreed by the player's parents (guardian), the Zone Governing/Operating Committee and the Home Centre, in writing.
OMHA Rule 21.2 Player Tryout
- All players must be in compliance with the OMHA Residential Qualifications, Regulation 3.3 and OHF Residential Requirements Regulations E17-E25.
- To try out for a AAA team a player must register with the Centre, and attend scheduled tryouts.
- AAA teams must offer a player the opportunity to sign a completed "OMHA Offer of Commitment" for the current season and a copy of that offer must be delivered by :
- registered mail sent and postmarked within fourteen (14) days after the commencement of AAA tryouts,
- courier with a receipt verifying the date the package was given to the courier, withing fourteen (14) days after the commencement of AAA tryouts, or
- personal service, verified by sworn affidavit(s) of the deliverer and a witness to the delivery that the delivery was made to the player/parent withing fourteen (14) days after the commencement of AAA tryouts.

OHF Rules that Relate to Tryouts
- E17 -- Residential qualifications of the Hockey Canada Regulations F1 through F5, shall be strictly enforced. In addition Regulations of the Minor Hockey Members shall also determine eligibility for those respective minor hockey programs.
- E18 -- Residency is where a Player and their parents habitually reside and is presumed to be where the Player was legitimately registered for hockey in the preceding season. In all other cases, unless established to the contrary, it is presumed to be with the parents of the Player.
- E19 -- A Player is required to Tryout and play where they reside or if unable to Tryout, make themselves available to the organization to be offered a registration if the organization so wishes, except as provided herein.
- E32 -- A Player requiring a written Release to change Clubs who is in compliance with Residential qualifications and OHF Playing Regulations E17, E18, and E19 for AAA hockey only, must be offered, in writing, a Player’s registration for the current season, and a copy of that offer must be delivered by:
- Registered mail sent and postmarked within fourteen (14) days after the commencement of AAA Tryouts;
- Courier with a receipt verifying date the package was given to the courier, within fourteen (14) days after the commencement of AAA Tryouts, or
- Personal service, verified by sworn affidavits of the deliverer and a witness to the delivery that the delivery was made to the Player/parent within fourteen (14) days after the commencement of AAA Tryouts.
