Hamilton Tournament
What a weekend for the boys in PINK!!

The minor atom Wolves travelled to Hamilton this weekend to compete in the Reebok junior Bulldogs tournament.

In game one they faced the top ranked team in the tournament, the Don Mills Flyers.  The boys played well as a team and were able to down the Flyers by a score of 2 to 1.  Goals came from Best assisted by Jukes and Jukes assisted by Worsley and Heyes.

This victory set the stage for the rest of the weekend.

In game two the boys faced another top seed, the Hamilton Bulldogs.  The boys fought hard and were able to tie the Bulldogs with a score of 4 to 4.  Goals were scored by Stacey from Corneil and Best, Heyes from Stringer and Best, Peterkin and Stacey from Heyes and Worsley.

In game three against Peterborough the team continued to show hard work and determination, downing Peterborough by a score of 7 to 3.  Goals were scored by Heyes from Jukes and Worsley, Patterson from Stacey, Fergusson from Stringer and Stacey, Heyes from Worsley, Peterkin, Stringer from Stacey and Ibbitson and Heyes from Stacey.

The final round robin game against York Simcoe Express proved that the Wolves were the team to beat, winning the game with a score of 6 to 0.

Congratulations to net minder Mathews for a well-deserved shut out.

The very convincing victory placed the team is 1st place overall, with a record of 3 – 0 – 1, guaranteeing the Wolves a spot in the playoffs.

In the semis the Wolves faced off against the Don Mills Flyers again.  The Flyers were out for revenge.  With a very tense and scoreless first period the boys had to dig down deep if they were going to pull this one off.  The Wolves were first to strike with Stacey finding the back of the net, from Jukes and Peterkin.  The tension broke as the boys settled in and played very disciplined hockey against a very frustrated Flyers squad.  By the end of the second period the Wolves were up by 1 with goals from Heyes assisted by Jukes and Worsley and Peterkin from Jukes and Corneil.

In the third the boys finished strong by adding 2 more, Peterkin from Heyes and Worsley and Patterson from Peterkin.

With a final of 5 to 3 the boys put out the 8th seeded team in Ontario and clinched a spot in the Championship game.

In the Championship game the boys took on the fast skating Hamilton Huskies.  Again, with a scoreless first period the tension was thick.  The Huskies scored first but the boys answered back with a goal from Heyes assisted by Worsley and Peterkin.  At the end of the second the score was a 2- 2 tie.  Wolves’ goal came from Jukes assisted by Worlsey and Heyes.  The Huskies gained the lead in the third but with 59 seconds left in the game Heyes buried the puck with a pass from Worsley.  The game ended in a 3- 3 tie.  After 2 minutes of 3 on 3 overtime the game was still undecided.  The Huskies did however find the back of the net in the third minute of the 2 on 2 O.T., winning the game with a score of 4 to 3.

What a weekend, Matthews played outstanding in all 6 of our games.  There was a lot of pressure on Matthews as Rogers has been out with an injury.

The coaching staff would like to congratulate the boys on an amazing weekend of hockey.  The boys showed a tremendous amount of character this weekend, on and off the ice.  Every member of the team contributed and as a result the boys were tournament finalists.

Way to go Wolves!!!!!!!
